Pastor’s Desk

August 22, 2013

It’s hard to believe, but this Sunday, August 25th, will make my 11th Sunday here at Annetta and Bethel. It’ll also be my 7th week as a Weatherford resident. Time sure flies by when we’re staying busy and having fun. And, indeed, time cannot be bought, borrowed, or saved, but only to be used. Are you using your time wisely and for God’s purpose?

In Scripture, time is referred to either as “temporal” or “eternal.” For “temporal” time, there is a beginning and an end. The beginning as referred to in Genesis was when God created the heavens and the earth. The end time as referred to by Jesus is when God’s purpose will be fulfilled as found in the Synoptic Gospels. The present time, however, the temporal, is where you and I are currently living. How fortunate are we to be living in-between times. The “eternal” time is not measured by a beginning and end; rather, “eternal” time is endless. How blessed we will be to reach time eternal.

With that in mind, I would like to make the best of my time while serving here at Annetta and Bethel. I would like to get to know you a little more and a little better. And we simply cannot accomplish this on just Sunday mornings.

I am suggesting that we gather regularly outside of our regular Sunday worship service, if not once a month then once a quarter, where you will have an opportunity to share your story, i.e. traces of your family background and/or something about you. This will allow us to get to know one another.

With this in mind, this Saturday, August 24, 2013, from 6-8:00 p.m., we are having a potluck dinner with our Annetta and Bethel UMC families at the Annetta Fellowship Hall where you will learn a little more about me. I will also introduce you to the history of Christianity in Tonga, in the South Pacific. You will have the opportunity to ask questions. My family will provide Polynesian Entertainment. I hope that you can attend.

May God’s love, peace, and grace bless you, always!
